Building a Better Buzzer
Seniors, Dan Altman and Kevin Zhang have been working with physics teacher Joe Scherrer on an independent study project investigating digital electronic physics. One of their engineering projects from the fall term was to build the buzzer system for GA's own version of Jeopardy - The Knowledge Bowl. Their invention promises to be more accurate, with little or no time delay insuring that the student who hits the buzzer first, is recognized as such, able to have first go at an answer. Altman reports, "We had to come up with the design and build the working prototype. It is a lot of fun to use physics to solve a problem right here at school. And I know it helps the students."
